ベルティヨンの最初の著作。「身体測定法」の発明が警視総監から
認められずに干されていた時期に、父である人類学者ルイ＝アドルフ・ベルティヨンの
薦めで執筆した、人類学の入門書。

Identification anthropométrique: instructions signalétiques (1893)
1885年に初版の出た、身体測定法のマニュアルの、第二版。初版とは
比較にならないほどの厚さとなり、こちらが定番のマニュアルとして
流通することになる。

これでデジタル化されていないベルティヨンの著作は、Instructions signalétiquesの初版（1885）と、晩年のAnthropologie métrique（1909）（A. Chervinとの共著）だけになった。
